After the meeting in front of Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) entrance

Discussion with Sayeed Muhammad Sharif at BORI on blue economy growth, seaweed commercialization, and pathways to scale BORI research outputs.

A strategic discussion was held between Sayeed Muhammad Sharif, Senior Scientific Officer and Head of the Biological Oceanography Department, and Abid Hossain Khan, CEO of Cordinato, at Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute.

Our discussion focused on the opportunities to expand and develop Bangladesh’s blue economy, with particular emphasis on seaweed cultivation and its commercial potential.

During the meeting, he highlighted that BORI has developed more than 20 research outputs with strong potential for commercialization, which could unlock significant business opportunities.

However, he also pointed out key challenges hindering progress in this sector, including limited investor engagement, lack of international collaboration, and gaps in supportive policy frameworks.

It was evident from the discussion that, with the right strategic alignment—combining investment, global partnerships, and policy support—the blue economy, particularly the seaweed sector, holds immense potential to contribute meaningfully to Bangladesh’s economic growth.
